Juniper Publishers-Medical Imaging in Novel Drug Development

Image
Juniper Publishers-Open Access Journal of Cancer Authored by Sunil Aggarwal Medical Imaging is now being used extensively, in fact more than ever, for clinical trials for a new drug development. Medical imaging can be used through any of the available imaging modalities, including quantitative imaging with the help of CT, MRI or hybrid PET-CT. Much time and money can be saved in not proceeding with a clinical trial as imaging can predict fairly well and early about the efficacy of a compound for the disease process in its evaluation as a “Go-No Go” approach. FDA and other regulatory authorities also believe that medical imaging is a critical component in its Critical Path Opportunity List of 2006.  It is significant to note that pharmaceutical companies and CROs employ imaging as its important tool to quantify matrix for its justification of introducing a new drug, but standardization in terms of patient positioning or the central reads have to be justifie

Juniper Publishers-Adult Wilms’ Tumor: Review of Literature

Juniper Publishers-Open Access Journal of Cancer Adult Wilms’ Tumor: Review of Literature Authored by Elsayed Mostafa Ali The most common renal tumor in adults is renal cell carcinoma, wilms’ tumor is extremely rare in adults, representing only 0.5% of all renal neoplasms, 240 cases in adults have been reported [1]. The true incidence of adult wilms’ tumor is somewhat uncertain because of confusion in terminology and difficulties in clinical and pathological differential diagnosis [2]. Kilton et al. selected 35 real adult wilms’ tumor complying with 6 diagnostic criteria of 192 documented cases [3].  Patients with stage III, IV are reported to account for more than 50% of most adult series [4]. Until recent, exact data on prognosis and late effects are not available [5]. Prognosis for adult patients with unfavorable histology and stage IV disease (hematogenous metastasis) is poor despite aggressive multimodal therapy [6]. There is no standard therapy for trea
